The Hybrid Software Engineer

Fam,

Like I have been preaching for years now, this is a great article on highlighting the next wave coming for many companies focusing on improving their product quality (in which most products have a software component if not an entirely software product) via a hybrid software engineer (i.e. a developer who tests well or, even better, a tester who develops well).

If you haven't thought about this, then it's a good time to start practicing your coding skills and learning what automated test tools exist to improve development performance and product quality.

What this article does not mention (at least I didn't see it mentioned) is that customers are increasing their involvement in the product development cycle - that is, they want to test the product before the release. And, if they can test the product multiple times before the release, then that's what they want as opposed to waiting for a contract to finish, meet to give a list of feedback and corrections to requirements, and then enter another contract.

Just sayin',
G2

P.S. Eventually, project managers will also be a hybrid with business analysts (or systems analyst or whatever the title is for those who create and manage requirement documents).
